About confidential advisers
  • What can a confidential adviser do for you?

A confidential adviser will take the time to listen to you and help you find the best solution for your situation. Confidential advisers have an in-depth knowledge of the UvA and will sit down with you to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the options open to you. A confidential adviser can also help you engage in discussion with the person responsible for the undesirable behaviour. Furthermore, they can help you submit a complaint with the Complaint Committee. You have the final say in every situation.

If necessary, you will be referred to others who can help you further. If you are unsure whether a confidential adviser is the right person to contact about a problem you have, don’t hesitate: confidential advisers are always happy to discuss your situation with you.

  • Will the information I give always be treated as confidential?

You can always rely on a confidential adviser to treat everything you say as confidential. A confidential adviser may only act on what you say with your consent. The duty of confidentiality may only be broken if strict conditions are met: if you tell a confidential adviser about a serious offence and there is a big risk of it happening again.

  • Who can contact confidential advisers?

Anyone who works or studies at the UvA can contact the confidential advisers. The same applies for staff members who work for the UvA but not in salaried employment.
