Anne de Graaf is the UvA's first Chief Diversity Officer, which was a new position and plays a complex role. De Graaf: ‘We’ve come a long way in three years and I am deeply grateful to the CDO Team and Faculty Diversity Officers, as well as countless others throughout the UvA community, who have helped make this progress possible. Conversations and policy shifts that were unthinkable three years ago, are accepted and pursued now. In the next three years, we will cooperate even more with Amsterdam partners, and prioritize for students and staff the issues of Support and Sustainability as we sharpen our focus on Discrimination and Decolonization.'
De Graaf is now a key figure in an extensive network of employees and students who are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. Every faculty has a Faculty Diversity Officer. Together, they sharpen the focus of the organisation with regard to implementing the diversity policy document and link diversity to the UvA's education and personnel policies. The CDO Team continues to gather momentum with a wide variety of initiatives. These include offering various courses and workshops (related to diversity, inclusion and equity). In addition, the Grassroots fund has sponsored many ideas from students and staff to make the UvA more inclusive. New applications can be submitted here. In November the 'Meet your Mentor' programme will be launched, in which business professionals will guide students who are first generation and/or with a non-Western background in the last year of their studies as they expand their networks in the labour market.
